Alachlor is a chloroacetanilide herbicide. It is a carcinogen, ground water contaminant, developmental or reproductive toxin, and a suspected endocrine disruptor.[1] Pesticide Action Network lists it as a Bad Actor pesticide. In California, alachlor is most commonly used on corn and beans.[1] It causes slight acute toxicity.[1] Alachlor is made by Monsanto and sold under the trade name Lasso.

Pollution of Waterways
According to a 1999 U.S. Geological Survey publication, alachlor was among the top herbicides found in streams in agricultural areas.[2] However, in shallow groundwater in agricultural areas, it is more common to find breakdown products of alachlor than finding alachlor itself.
