Alan D. Bersin

Alan D. Bersin was appointed on March 27, 2010 as Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection within the Department of Homeland Security. He earlier served in DHS as Assistant Secretary for International Affairs and Special Representative for Border Affairs. [1]

Before his DHS service Bersin was Chairman of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. He was California's Secretary of Education after being appointed on July 1, 2005 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. [1]

Prior to commencing that position in May 2005, Bersiin was the Superintendent of Public Education of the San Diego Unified School District. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Council on Teacher Quality.

Bersin, a classmate both to William Jefferson Clinton and Albert Gore, Jr., graduated from Harvard, class of 1968.

He was U.S. Attorney General Special Representative for Southwest Border Issues between 1995 to 1998. [2]
