BASIC is an increasingly powerful caucus comprising Brazil, South Africa, India and China in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations. The BASIC countries were a crucial player in the negotiation of the Copenhagen Accord.

January 2010 meeting

The BASIC countries will meeting in New Delhi in the third week of January 24, 2010 to canvass their positions ahead of submitting detailing of their proposed emission reduction targets to be included in the schedule attached to the Copenhagen Accord. An article in The Economic Times notes that "the BASIC countries will also need to work out a strategy of engaging the Accord with a view to retaining the two track—Kyoto Protocol and Long-term Co-operative Action (Bali)—process."[1] It has also been reported that the meeting will also "devise a strategy for the Bonn Ministerial meeting in May."[2]
