Biographical Details

"Blaine Harden has been a national correspondent for The New York Times since April 2001 and a writer for the Sunday New York Times Magazine since January 1999. He joined The Times as a reporter on the metro desk in January 1999.

"Previously, Harden held numerous positions at the Washington Post. He was a New York correspondent from 1997-1999, a political reporter in 1996, and an investigative reporter from 1995-1996. From 1986-1993, Harden was a foreign correspondent for the Washington Post, reporting from Eastern Europe and Africa....

"Harden is the author of "Africa: Dispatches from a Fragile Continent" (1990, Norton) and "A River Lost: The Life and Death of the Columbia" (1996, Norton). His awards include the Ernie Pyle Award for Feature Writing (1993), the ASNE Non-Deadline Writing Award (1987) and the Livingston Award for Young Journalists (1986)." [1]

In 2002 he married Jessica Madeleine Kowal. "Jean S. Kopkin, a leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture, officiated at a private home in New York. Last evening, Thomas Caldarola, a former Jesuit priest, led a celebration of the couple's marriage at the Explorers Club, also in New York." [2]
