Brian G. Valentine is with the U.S. Department of Energy's Industrial Technologies Program, [1] and a climate change skeptic. He is sometimes also identified as a professor at the University of Maryland, [2] but is not included in their online directory.

Valentine is a speaker at the International Conference on Climate Change (2009) organized by the Heartland Institute think tank. [3]

Valentine signed onto a December 2007 open letter to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon that called global warming "a natural phenomenon that has affected humanity through the ages," called carbon dioxide "a non-polluting gas that is essential to plant photosynthesis," and claimed the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's reports "quite inadequate as justification for implementing policies that will markedly diminish future prosperity." The letter also stated, "Recent observations of phenomena such as glacial retreats, sea-level rise and the migration of temperature-sensitive species are not evidence for abnormal climate change, for none of these changes has been shown to lie outside the bounds of known natural variability." [4]

Valentine was quoted in a document submitted to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee in July 2008 by Senator James Inhofe as saying, "No 'greenhouse' gas other than water has ever influenced the global climate perceptibly." [5] In a letter to the editor about the document, Valentine wrote: [6]

[A]ll of us have allowed the use of our names for Sen. James Inhofe's report to inspire more public discussion and understanding of what Albert Gore's message is. The public needs to hear, understand and believe that there is no danger from carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. None. It doesn't matter where it came from.
I can't make a movie to prove it. I can't get up and bully the United Nations and a conference in Bali into believing me. I can't do any more than invite the public to demand: "If Al Gore thinks he's right, then stop dismissing Inhofe and the list of people and ask those people to discuss, with knowledgeable experts, why Al Gore isn't right."
