Center for Civil Force Protection
The National Institute of Justice's Center for Civil Force Protection (CCFP) at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) was founded in 2000 and designed to be a central resource center providing physical security counterterrorism assistance to state and local agencies. As of September 2010, its continuing existence is unknown.
According to a March 30, 2000 Sandia press release announcing CCFP, "the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the research arm of the Department of Justice, asked Sandia to establish the CCFP to provide a means whereby state and local law enforcement agencies could access this type of [physical security and counterterrorism] expertise."[1]
Sandia, headquartered in Albuquerque, is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory that works in physical security and counterterrorism technology, especially in regards to protecting U.S. nuclear facilities. They envisioned CCFP as helping "law enforcement officials, state and local government officials, public safety officials, company officials, school administrators, church leaders, community center directors, and others" in their counterterrorism efforts.[1]
