The Center for a Sustainable Economy (CSE) seeks "designs and promotes innovative policies that harmonize the goals of sound economic growth, environmental quality, fairness and vibrant communities. We engage a wide range of stakeholders from communities such as labor, business, public-interest advocacy and tax policy.

"CSE is funded by grants from foundations and gifts from donors. We were founded in February of 1996 as a project of the Tides Center, a non-profit, non-partisan, tax-exempt organization. CSE currently has a staff of nine, including seven permanent staff and two research associates." [1]

"Center for a Sustainable Economy is a non-profit, non-partisan research and policy organization that promotes innovative tax and other market-based approaches to achieving a sustainable economy -- one that integrates long-term economic prosperity, environmental quality and social fairness." [2]
