Charles E. Bunch "is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of PPG Industries.

"After joining PPG in 1979, he held finance assignments at glass plants in Indiana and Alabama. Bunch was appointed manager of European finance and planning in Paris in 1982, and named manager of European flat glass and commercial products in 1985. The following year, he became managing director of PPG's Italian glass subsidiary.

"Bunch moved to the Pittsburgh headquarters in 1988 as corporate director of purchasing and distribution. Subsequently, he became general manager of architectural coatings in 1992, vice president of that unit in 1994, and vice president, fiber glass, in 1995. He was elected senior vice president of strategic planning and corporate services in 1997, and executive vice president, coatings, in early 2000.

"In July 2002, Bunch was named president, chief operating officer and board member, becoming chief executive officer in March 2005 and taking his current post in July 2005.

"A native of Philadelphia, Bunch received a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from Georgetown University and a master’s degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.

"He is director and chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, vice chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers, and vice chairman and treasurer of the National Paint and Coatings Association. Bunch is also a member of the University of Pittsburgh’s board of trustees, and a member of the board of directors of the H. J. Heinz Company." [1]
