Claude A. Allen
On January 5, 2005, upon naming him, President Bush said: "Claude Allen has been a valuable member of my Administration since 2001, helping to improve the health and welfare of all Americans. He is a dedicated public servant and a tireless advocate for those in need. I look forward to his continued service in this new role as my domestic policy advisor." 
Allen was then serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Health and Human Services. "He previously served as Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the State of Virginia and served in the Virginia Attorney General's Office. He was an associate at Baker & Botts in Washington, D.C., from 1991 to 1995 and served as a professional staff member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 1985 to 1987. Mr. Allen is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and Duke University Law School."
