Cynthia Steele joined EMPower Foundation, "an organization connecting the emerging markets community with innovative grassroots organizations enabling young people to lead healthy, productive lives, as Program Director in 2005. In this capacity, she oversees the program strategy and grantmaking.

"From 2001-2004, she was Vice President, Programs for the International Women’s Health Coalition (IWHC) responsible for overseeing IWHC’s programs in Africa, Asia and Latin America and its budget and program planning processes. She implemented the agency’s first institution-wide monitoring and evaluation program and spearheaded a new initiative to empower young people within staff and partner organizations.

"Previously, Cynthia worked at Engender Health, an international health organization, for 18 years in diverse positions and served on the executive team overseeing the agency from 1996-2001. From 1999-2001, she was the Vice President for Resource Development, overseeing development and public affairs. She has over seven years of experience in program development and evaluation and managed activities in the Latin American and Caribbean regions.

"Cynthia serves on several international advisory bodies and has published extensively on issues related to women’s health and human rights. She has worked in over 40 countries, and speaks Spanish, French and Portuguese. Cynthia has a M.A. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and attended the Senior Executive Program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business."
