The case of Davis/Ellis v. R.J. Reynolds was a class action suit brought by representative plaintiffs Gray Davis (Governor of California), and James Ellis against R.J. Reynolds, Brown & Williamson, British American Tobacco, Liggett, Philip Morris, the Council for Tobacco Research, the Tobacco Institute and Lorillard. The class was defined as addicted smokers in California. The case was heard in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of San Diego (No. 706458). It was included in the Coordination Proceeding Special Title (Rule 1550(b)) Tobacco Cases (No. JCCP 4041). The case was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice.
