Edward Blum is variously described as a "policy analyst" and an "adjunct scholar" for Linda Chavez's think tank the Center for Equal Opportunity.

Blum is a former trader for Paine Webber who became the subject of controversy in 1999. The city of Houston, Texas objected to Blum's involvement as Chairman of the vehemently anti-affirmative action group Campaign for a Color-Blind America. The mayor of Houston indicated to Paine Webber that city bond business would be withheld from the firm as long as Blum was associated with the anti-affirmative action group. Blum eventually resigned from Paine Webber under pressure. [1]
