Raised in southwest Detroit. Attended Detroit Public School, graduated Cass Technical H.S. (1980). Graduated of Wayne State University; Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences ('86)and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry ('95).

Material Handler (member of Service Employees International Union) and Pharmacy Technician at Harper Hospital. Pharmacy Technician at Outer Drive Hospital and Wyandotte General Hospital. Employed as a Chemical Research Technician.^{[citation needed]}
