"FareShare is a national UK charity supporting communities to relieve food poverty. FareShare is at the centre of two of the most urgent issues that face the UK: food poverty and food waste... FareShare has been operating since 2004 as an independent charity and today has 17 locations around the UK. Established in 1994 as a project within the homelessness charity Crisis, FareShare aims to help vulnerable groups, whether they are homeless, elderly, children, or other groups in food poverty within our communities." Early Funding

In their 2005 Annual report they note:

"Our first year has been a year focused on establishing our independence and rolling out new projects . The most important of which was gaining independence for the organization from Crisis with'their support and blessings . This was the culmination of two years work

during which time we developed FareShare's new mission and values, set out strategic objectives, recruited a new board and the staff and volunteers needed to deliver our strategic targets . This year has seen steady growth in our fundraising, which as an newly independent charity is a significant challenge, raising £300K of new money . This included significant contributions from the John Ellerman Foundation and the Garfield Weston Foundation . This culminated in the successful application to the Big Lottery Fund for a fantastic £900,000 over the next 3 years for us to achieve our ambitious expansion plans in London and across the UK."

Funding[4]

"Our corporate supporters from the food - and non - food industries continue to be a major source of financial support for the charity; we are pleased to have welcomed key supporters in 2011/12 including Elanco, Bank of New York Mellon and ( through our new partnership with Oxfam ) Unilever to the list. But their support goes much deeper than financial backing, providing us with dedicated volunteers, expertise, and fantastic opportunit ies to communicate our message. The Meal Appeal we launched with Sainsbury’s in November raised over 250 tonnes of food for the charity from public donations, and got our message to millions of their customers UK."

In 2011 £41,353 of their total income of £1,663,844 was derived from incomes and legacies; £440,450 came from Trusts and Foundations and £916,950 from corporations.

In 2012 £20,826 of their total income of £1,580,313 was derived from incomes and legacies; £326,463 came from Trusts and Foundations and £1,139,640 from corporations. [5]
