Biographical Information

"Garth (South African, 40) has spent his career working in financial services and the capital markets, both in an advisory capacity and within banks. He spent time at Deloitte where he was a partner, and more recently was the Chief Executive of the Bond Exchange of South Africa (which in the last 12 months of his tenure traded 22 trillion ZAR of debt transactions). He currently works in the treasury of Eskom Holdings and provides conservation finance related consulting services. He has broad capital markets experience and enjoys applying this to conservation-related projects. He was appointed by the South African Minister of Finance to the Financial Markets Advisory Board and he is a member of the task team drafting the guidelines for the regulation of the South African OTC derivatives markets. Garth graduated with BA, LLB and LLM (tax) degrees and he is an Advocate of the High Courts of South Africa and Namibia. Garth is also currently working on a Mathematics PhD in risk management at North West University, focusing on concentration risk issues in central counterparties and extreme value theory. His free time is spent participating in activities such as cycling, running and photography and is an avid reader of biographies and accounts of historic events. He is actively involved in an educational charity for under-privileged children." [1]
