Kraft General Foods, Inc. was a unit of Philip Morris, circa 1994.[1]Kraft Foods is the world's second largest food company after Nestlé. It manufactures packaged foods like Oreos and Tang. Altria Group (the parent company of Philip Morries) divested itself of Kraft to allow the company to escape the "taint" of tobacco allow Altria to focus on its more profitable tobacco business.[2]

Description

In 1995 Kraft General Foods, Inc. was reorganized and renamed Kraft Foods Inc. As of 2007, it is a separate company. [3]

Connections to ALEC

Until 2012, Kraft was a longtime supporter of ALEC. n June of 2011, the Center for Media and Democracy began ALEC Exposed, an extensive investigation of ALEC. This campaign garnered widespread media attention in the wake of the the killing of Treyvon Martin by Alex Zimmerman, who was initially protected by Florida's "Stand Your Ground" Law. [4]. The law originated as a piece of ALEC legislation. Under public Pressure from the Center for Media and Democracy, Color of Change, Common Cause, People for the American Way, and other allies, Kraft made the decision not to renew their 2011 membership with ALEC. [5]
