Biographical Information

"Homer has completed many NOLS courses and prototype explorations, including trips in Baja, Alaska, and one of the first joint U.S./Soviet Mountaineering Expeditions made up of five NOLS representatives. Homer has a bachelor degree from the University of Texas, an MBA in accounting from the University of Texas, and an MBA from Harvard. He served on special diplomatic assignments abroad for Presidents Nixon and Ford to more than 25 countries, including historic presidential trips to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the People's Republic of China, and the Soviet Union. He was a Vice Chair of the Houston Host Committee for the 1992 Republican National Convention, Director of Events of the 1990 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations, Director of Special Events for the 1988 Republican Convention in New Orleans, and an advisor to President George H. Bush's 1988 Presidential campaign.

"Homer is a private investor and has been an early investor in several of today's major technology companies. He was a founder and chair of Eagle Management and Trust Company, which managed several billion in assets at the time of its sale to Guinness Peat, Ltd. of London. He served as a director of the University of Texas Investment Management Company, which manages the endowment monies for the University of Texas system. He taught at the University of Texas Business School and lectured at the Jones Graduate School at Rice University. He has served on numerous nonprofit and corporate boards.

"Homer is a director of the Jackson Hole One Fly Foundation, the Teton Science Schools, the Advisory Board of the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and the University of Texas Marine Science Institute. He has completed two six-year terms on the National Park Foundation, as appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, and has served as chair of its alumni council. He has also served as a member of the board of the Grand Teton Park Foundation, the Yellowstone Park Foundation, the Mesa Verde National Park Foundation, and the national board of Trout Unlimited. In June 2001, the National Park Service presented him with the Shoulder-to-Shoulder Award for his work on behalf of national parks. His service and this event are recorded in the June 8, 2001, Congressional Record of the United States.

"Homer is married to his high school sweetheart, Pat. The couple lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and have three sons, all of whom are NOLS graduates."[1]
