Howie Wolke "is a longtime wilderness advocate, author of two books, columnist, public speaker, university instructor, and professional wilderness guide. Howie is well known in the conservation movement for his expertise on public lands and wilderness, and national forest issues in particular. After working as the Wyoming Representative for Friends of the Earth in the mid 1970's, he co-founded Earth First! in 1980 and left that group in 1990, after it lost its focus on wilderness. Today he is an advisor or board member for a variety of regional and national groups. He is a past president of the national conservation group Wilderness Watch.
