Biography

Jerome Rivers has knowledge of the monitoring and manipulation of nicotine content in the cigarette manufacturing process of Philip Morris. Jerome Rivers is one of the three ex-Philip Morris employees who gave statements to the FDA in February of 1996 about the company's manufacturing processes. In a deposition taken in early May of 1996 as a part of Mississippi's lawsuit against the tobacco companies, Rivers admitted he should have referred to measuring ammonia not nicotine, in tobacco leaf. Rivers explained how the firm used ammonia to alter nicotine levels.(USA Today 5/7/96)

Jerome Rivers had numerous positions at Philip Morris in Research & Development (R&D), including Production and Technical Support from 1991 to 1995, when he served as a shift manager.(Rivers 1996 Affidavit submitted to the FDA). Mr. Rivers was a Philip Morris employee for 23 years.
