Jerry Frank Whidby, Ph.D. was an analytical chemist and scientist for Philip Morris. He testified on behalf of the defense in the case of Donald A. LaBelle, whose wife, Christine, a smoker, died of lung cancer in 1997 at age 40, leaving behind an 8 year old son.
He was referred to Philip Morris by Ray Morgan and started working there in 1972. After retiring, Whidby consulted for Philip Morris at the rate of $1,700 per day for technical advising, and $2,200 per day for litigation work. He reported to Dr. Fritz Will, III, manager of analytical chemistry. He also worked with Manuel "Manny" C. Bourlas. From 1981 to 1987, he worked under William Anthony Farone.[1]
