This John Daniel "is with the Human Sciences and Research Council of South Africa, as research director in the Democracy and Governance programme and the head of the Publications Department. He has a BA degree from the University of Natal and a MA and PhD in political science from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. Before undertaking graduate studies, John worked (1966-68) for the national student trade union as President of the National Union of South African Students (NUSAS). John has taught at universities in the USA, Swaziland, Netherlands and South Africa, most recently at the University of Durban-Westville where he held the chair in political science. He also spent six years in the 1980s as the Africa editor of Zed Books in London. From 1996-98, John was seconded to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission." [1]
