Dr. Jospeh C. Bloodgood was a surgical pathologist at Johns Hopkins University 1895-1932. He was the Author of the article "Cancer of the Tongue, A Preventable Disease" (1921). Joseph C. Bloodgood reviewed 15 benign pre-cancerous lesions of the lower lip and concluded that "smoking seems to be the most common etiological factor."[1]
