Larry Kurzweil "was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Studios Hollywood theme park in November 1999 and has responsibilities for the oversight of all businesses within Universal Studios Hollywood, including the Universal CityWalk entertainment complex and the Universal Cinemas.

"Kurzweil was promoted to his current position after serving as a Senior Vice President and General Manager of Universal CityWalk beginning in 1997. In that role, he was responsible for the creation and development of the entertainment venue's extensive expansion.

"In his current role, Kurzweil has presided over the introduction of many of the theme park's signature attractions and oversaw the initiative to reposition the company's brand as "The Entertainment Capital of L.A." to reflect its standing as Los Angeles' premiere all-in-one entertainment destination.

"His passionate style of leadership and advocacy of employee communication led to his being awarded "Employer of the Year" by the Employee Services Management Association "in recognition of his role in creating a corporate culture based on a set of core values." He has been honored by his alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University by being selected as the graduation commencement speaker at its Graduate School of Business.

"Serving as the Chairman of Universal Studios Hollywood's Discover A Star Foundation, Kurzweil's efforts have resulted in a quadrupling of revenues and a broadening of the scope of the Foundation's disbursements to organizations supporting homeless and child related causes. He also serves as Executive Board member for the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau and is Vice-Chairman of the Providence Saint Joseph Foundation Board of Governors.

"Prior to joining Universal Studios Hollywood, Kurzweil held a variety of key marketing and general management positions in top consumer-oriented companies including Darden Restaurants and Nestle.

"Kurzweil holds a Master of Science degree in industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He and his wife, Lauren, have two sons and live in the Southern California community of Calabasas." [1]
