Luther Bernard Allgood was the older brother of the Plaintiff in Allgood v. R.J. Reynolds. In the 1991 lawsuit, the family of Samuel Allgood claimed that the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the American Tobacco Company and two tobacco-industry related organizations failed to sufficiently warn Allgood that the cigarettes he smoked could have been killing him. Allgood died on January 23, 1989, at the age 57 from laryngeal cancer after 47 years of smoking. The court ruled against Allgood in the case.
