Mark Schauer has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, representing the 7th district of the State of Michigan, since 2009 (map) of Michigan.

Positions, record and controversies
The Economy
Schauer wants a trade policy that protects American workers and allows American to be competitive in a global market. He supports increasing in the minimum wage and protecting the earned income tax credit. [1]
War in Iraq
Schauer does not support the Iraq War, and wants to find a new strategy in the region. He would like to have troops removed as soon as possible while keeping the soldiers safe. [1]
Healthcare
To improve the healthcare system, Schauer says he would support policies that give more access to coverage and lower the cost of care. He would also work hard to protect children's healthcare coverage under SCHIP.[1]
Environment
Schauer supports investing in alternative energy to help preserve natural resources, reduce carbon emissions and control the need for foreign oil. He is also opposed to drilling the Great Lakes. [1]
Social Security
Schauer says he will not gamble with social security by working on privatization methods, but will work to ensure the long-term stability of the program. [1]
Veterans
Schauer says he would support legislation keeps veteran's homes from foreclosure, increases economic and job opportunities, and ensures that veterans can send their children to college, similar to the legislation he has worked on at the state level. [1]
