Mike Fitzpatrick served the 8th Congressional district of Pennsylvania

Michael G. Fitzpatrick was a Republican representing Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional district (map) in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2005 to 2007. He was defeated by Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.) in the 2006 congressional elections.

Bio

Fitzpatrick was born in Philadelphia on June 28, 1963. He received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas University in 1985, and a Juris Doctor from Dickenson School of Law in 1988.

From 1995 to 2004, Fitzpatrick served as a county commissioner for Bucks County, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.

Congressional career

In 2004, Fitzpatrick successfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives seat being vacated by fellow Republican James C. Greenwood, defeating Democrat Virginia Schrader 55%-44%. He was inaugurated in January 2005 as part of the 109th United States Congress|109th Congress.

2006 elections

In 2006, Democrats nominated Patrick Murphy to face Fitzpatrick in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Murphy defeated Fitzpatrick by 1,500 votes to take possession of the seat. [2]
