NARAL Pro-Choice America, Inc. was formerly known as The National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League. NARAL is "a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, [which] works through the political and legislative systems to advocate for comprehensive reproductive health policies and to secure reproductive choice for all Americans. NARAL Pro-Choice America defends the right to choose and works to make abortion less necessary. Using sophisticated political strategies, extensive grassroots organizing, and effective lobbying efforts, NARAL Pro-Choice America has fought and won numerous pro-choice victories in its 30-year history."[1]
NARAL's goal "is to help find workable answers that will ultimately reduce the need for abortions." NARAL believes that "Ignoring shortcomings in access to contraception, reproductive health care, and sex education while ripping away a woman's right to choose will only result in more unintended pregnancies and more abortions. This shortsighted approach is neither American nor life affirming ... [Until NARAL achieves that] goal, it [believes that it] is critical that those who value the freedom and independence we enjoy in this country work hard now to protect a woman's right to choose. For now, that basic American right is seriously at risk."[2]
