The National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) is a lobbying front group representing "all aspects of the private water service industry." [1]

NAWC performs direct lobbying via the National Association of Water Companies Political Action Committee (NAWC PAC). [2] [3]

In addition to lobbying, NAWC works to put a positive spin on water privatization by framing member companies as "environmental stewards" who are "responsive to their customers." [4] For example, in December 2009, NAWC Executive Director Michael Deane submitted an op-ed piece to the Huffington Post titled "Recognizing Private Water Companies for Sustainable Solutions." [5]. Alleging that the private water industry "rigorously pursue[s] environmental sustainability and water conservation," the article highlighted member company United Water's switch to electronic billing. The article failed to mention United Water's long record of exposing customers to environmental and health risks.[6]
