Biographical Information

"Nigel Haigh helped to found the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) and was a Vice-President (1975-79). In 1980 he opened the London office of the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and was its director until his retirement in 1998. Nigel was also a founder member of the Green Alliance in 1978 and was its Chairman from 1989 to 1997. He has served on the Board of the Environment Agency (for England and Wales) (1995-2000) and was appointed by the European Parliament to the Management Board of the European Environment Agency (2000-2005).

"Nigel has also served as specialist adviser to the House of Lords European Scrutiny Committee for reports on a range of environmental topics including chemicals. He has published a book ‘EEC Environmental Policy and Britain’ (1984) which became the foundation for IEEP's loose-leaf 'Manual of Environmental Policy: the EU and Britain' which he edited till 2006.
