Norman R. Sorensen "is president and chief executive officer of Principal International, Inc., and a senior vice president of Principal Financial Group and Principal Life Insurance Company.

"Sorensen joined the company in 1998 and has been an executive officer of Principal Financial Group and of Principal Life Insurance Company since 2001. Previously he was a senior executive at American International Group, Inc. (AIG) from 1989 to 1997. Prior to joining AIG, he held a number of international marketing and general management positions at American Express Company from 1972 to 1983, and at Citigroup from 1984 to 1988.

"Norman R. Sorensen is a member of the boards of directors of the International Insurance Society (IIS), New York, and of the U.S. Coalition of Service Industries (CSI), Washington D.C. He is chairman of the International Committee of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), Washington D.C.; co-chairman of the Board of Governors of the Global Financial Leaders Forum (GFLF), New York; and a member of the Financial Services Roundtable (FSR), Washington D.C. Sorensen is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), New York, and is an honorary fellow of the Brazilian Insurance & Pensions Academy (ANSP), Sao Paulo, Brazil.

"Sorensen earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) and is a graduate of Columbia University’s Executive Program for International Managers." [1]
