In 2001, "SUPERMARKETS group Tesco is making its first major move into complementary medicines, a market it estimates will be worth more than £300m by 2003 and which is growing at a rate of 15% a year.

The group is paying just under £3m for a 50.1% stake in The Nutri Centre, a specialist mail order and retailer owned by Rohit Mehta. A range of 85 Nutri Centre@Tesco products will be on the shelves initially in 50 Tesco stores, rising to more than 200, and the full range of 22,000 products will be available through a new mail order catalogue.
