Oliver Stone "is a screenwriter and director and a member of the Board of Directors at the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. He co-wrote and directed such successful films as Wall Street, and Born of the Fourth of July which won an Academy Award in 1990.

"His works have won many awards, such as his 1995 TV mini-series Indictment: The McMartin Preschool which won the Emmy Award. His 1986 production, Platoon won three awards, the Academy award, Directors Guild award, and British Academy Award." [1]

His film, South of the Border (2009) was an eighty-minute-long travelogue/documentary about Latin America’s left-ward shift in the last decade. His latest "documentary" is Ukraine on Fire (2016) which features interviews with Robert Parry and portrays the 2014 uprising as a US-backed fascist revolt (this conspiratorial view is also promoted by the Workers World Party [1] [2], the Guardian [3], and the Communist Party of Great Britain [4]).

Michael Yates notes that "Oliver Stone’s Showtime series, Untold History of the United States, is the most radical mainstream television I have ever watched." [2]

His son is Sean Stone.
