Patrick Duddy

"On September 11, 2008, the Venezuelan Government expelled Ambassador Duddy, after declaring him Persona Non Grata.

"Ambassador Duddy most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs in Washington D.C. He has also served as the U.S. Consul General in Sao Paulo, Brazil and as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia.

"A career member of the Senior Foreign Service holding the personal rank of Minister Counselor, DAS Duddy has served at U.S. embassies in Chile, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Paraguay and Panama, as well as in Washington, D.C.

"Originally of Bangor, Maine, Duddy received his undergraduate degree from Colby College and a master's degree from Northeastern University. He is also a graduate of the National War College where he received a master's degree in National Security Strategy." [1]

He replaced William Brownfield as Ambassador to Venezuela.

Criticism

In 2007, Chris Carlson reported that...

"...Duddy has worked in different U.S. Embassies in Latin America such as Chile, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, and Paraguay. As U.S. Consul General in the U.S. Embassy in La Paz in 2002, he helped increase U.S. military presence in Bolivia under the U.S. coca eradication program.
"As Deputy Assistant Secretary for Brazil, the Southern Cone, and the Caribbean, Duddy played a critical role in the 2005 elections in Haiti, promoted by Washington after Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide was removed by a U.S.-led coup." [2]
