Rachel's Network "was established in 1999 by Winsome McIntosh with a grant from the McIntosh Foundation. The following year, Winsome, with help from consultant Tjiska Van Wyk, worked to enlist the investment of 17 women philanthropists around a shared commitment to conservation. Together, this Founders' Circle built a "good ol' girls' network" that would empower themselves and like-minded peers to be more effective funders, with a mission of "promoting women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth."" [1]

"In 2004, Rachel's Network created Rachel's Action Network (RAN), a nonpartisan 501(c)(4) organization that encourages women to participate in the political process and promotes women leaders who advocate for a healthy environment." [2]
