Singapore

The country of Singapore is an island city in Southeast Asia with a population of only about four million, yet it is considered a financial powerhouse. It has one of the highest standards of living in the world. About 80% of its population is ethnic Chinese.

Singapore is known for the strict rules on its people and the conservatism of its leaders.

Media

The BBC says of the country's media:

Singapore's media environment is highly regulated. Censorship is common, internet access is regulated and private ownership of satellite dishes is not allowed. Government officials have a record of winning defamation suits against foreign publications. Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders says the press is "in the grip of a rigorous self-censorship" over its coverage of domestic politics.
