Soli J. Sorabjee

Soli J. Sorabjee is a Senior Advocte with the Bombay Bar Association, and the former Attorney General of India.[1] According to his profile as former President of the India International Center, Shri Soli J. Sorabjee was born at Mumbai and is 73. Having joined the field of advocacy nearly half a century ago, he has had the rare distinction of holding the highest law posts under the Constitution--besides being Additional Solicitor General and Solicitor General of India (1977-80), he is the Chief Law Officer of the country, the Attorney General for India since 1998. A winner of Kinloch Forbes Gold Medal in Roman Law and Jurisprudence (1952), Shri Sorabjee's numerous attainments cannot be listed on this page. Inter alia, he is President, United Lawyer's Association; Chairman, Transparency International (India); Convenor, Minority Rights Group (India); Vice President of the Human Rights Committee of the International Bar Association and of the Commonwealth Lawyers' Association; Member, Executive Committee of the International Association of Constitutional Lawyers; Member of the Committee on Arms Control and Disarmament Law of the International Law Association; U. N. Special Rapporteur (1997) to report to the UNGA on the human rights situation in Nigeria; Member (since 1998) of the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities of the UN Commission for Human Rights to report on the human rights situation in East Timor; and Member (2000-06) of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, The Hague."

"Shri Soli Sorabjee has a very large number of publications to his credit, among which are The Law of Press Censorship in India (1976) and The Emergency, Censorship and the Press in India (1975-77)". [2]

Soli Sorabjee is also the father of Zia Mody, a prominent Indian lawyer and businesswoman, who has been been ranked as one of the 25 most powerful women in India[3], and the husband of Zena Sorabjee, Vice Chairperson, Guild of Service and a Trustee of the Indian Baha'i Lotus Temple.
