Southern Illinois Clean Energy Center is a proposed coal plant, to be built in Marion, Illinois (Williamson County).[1][2]

In 2005, Steelhead Energy Company LLC proposed to build the new Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) coal plant. Steelhead Energy is owned by ArcLight Capital (private equity) and managed by Madison Power Corp. The project also includes a coal-to-substitute natural gas facility and will be built adjacent to a new coal mine. [3]

Madison Power’s 600 MW Marion Gasification Plant (IGCC) plant in Marion, Illinois has been placed on hold due to construction of a nearby supercritical coal plant which has hindered power demand and tied up transmission and coal transport infrastructure. October 2007.[4]

As of December 2007, the Environmental Protection Agency considers the project application inactive and plans for the plant are not moving forward.[5]
