Steve Faris is a Democratic Senate Majority Whip in the state of Arkansas. He has served in a leadership role in the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and is a member of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the Council of State Governments (CSG).

Ties to the American Legislative Exchange Council
Faris is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), served as the National Chairman for ALEC in 2008, and sat on the Telecommunications and Technology Task Force (as of 2009). [1] In 2003, Faris served on the ALEC Board of Directors.[2]

In 2008, when Faris was the ALEC National Chair, he wrote an article for the Sept. 2008 edition of “Inside ALEC” magazine titled “How ALEC Works.” In that column, he wrote, “Every year, ALEC Task Forces consider dozens of Model Bills ranging from legal reform to taxes, from crime control to education reform, and from improved access to health care to good government initiatives. This summer, at our Annual Meeting in Chicago, ALEC’s Task Forces were busier than ever. ALEC has been so successful because of the unique way in which we develop policy solutions for the states. ALEC is the only national organization which brings together the public and private sectors as ‘’’equal partners’’’ (emphasis mine) to draft Model Legislation.”[3]
In a July 2008 edition of “Inside ALEC,” Faris wrote, “All great initiatives start from an idea, but it takes devoted people, committed to a common purpose, to make that idea a reality. It is the members of ALEC that turn ideas into action, and for that I thank you.”[4]
Membership in Other Legislative Organization
According to Faris’ biography on the Arkansas State Legislature website, serves on the Redistricting and Elections Committee of NCSL and the Governing Board of CSG.”[5]
