The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) describes itself as "a policy institute whose diverse Stockholm-based, internationally-oriented programmes and activities contribute to finding sustainable solutions to the world's escalating water crisis." [1]

World Water Week

SIWI organizes and hosts World Water Week, which it describes as "the leading annual global meeting place for capacity-building, partnership-building and follow-up on the implementation of international processes and programmes in water and development." The 2009 World Water Week took place August 16 to 22 in Stockholm, under the theme "Accessing Water for the Common Good." It was the first of a three-year-long World Water Week focus on "Accessing Water for the Common Good." [2]

Partnerships

SIWI has partnerships with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa, the Global Water Partnership, International Water Association, UN-Water, Water Environment Federation, Water Integrity Network, and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council. [3]

In 2006, SIWI helped launch a coalition at World Water Week called the "Water Integrity Network," with an aim of combating corruption in water management. In addition to SIWI, the coalition included Transparency International, Swedish Water House, the International Water and Sanitation Center, Water and Sanitation Programme-Africa and AquaFed. [4]
