Susumu Kato

Susumu Kato "was born on May 21, 1947 in Kyoto, Japan. Upon graduation from Kobe University in 1970 he joined Sumitomo Corporation. He spent 30 years gaining extensive experience in Sumitomo’s steel activities in Tokyo, culminating in seven-year assignments in both Detroit and Los Angeles for Sumitomo Corporation of America.

"In April of 2000, Mr. Kato was appointed General Manager of the Personnel & General Affairs Division. A year later his responsibilities were expanded when he was appointed General Manager of the Corporate Planning and Coordination Group, while continuing his Personnel & General Affairs assignment. Then, in April of 2005, he relocated to New York City to assume responsibility for all Sumitomo’s activities in the Americas when he was appointed President and CEO of Sumitomo Corporation of America, and General Manager for the Americas."
