There are a couple of statements in this article attributed to Whelan that I can't find references to. These are:

  • in the history section: Whelan saying in a 1997 interview that since in the early days she was being called a "paid liar for industry" ACSH may as well accept corporate funding. What was the source for this (I have looked and can;t find anything that matches this).
  • Whelan describing herself as "more libertarian than Republican". Was that it in the Kurtz CJR article referred to in the following sentence?

The remark about Whelan being called a "paid liar for industry" was already in the 1998 article in PRwatch. [1] That was almost 5 years before the ACSH article was added to the SourceWatch database on January 12, 2003. Same for "more libertarian than Republican" remark.

Hope this helps... --Bonzai 04:09, 26 Aug 2004 (EDT)

More details from a former ACSH insider

If anyone wants to update the entry, details are found at http://whelanacsh.blogspot.com. Nicmart (talk) 22:34, 2 May 2017 (EDT)

Whelan was not “clever” in using her anti-smoking views to ACSH’s advantage, she was fanatically anti-tobacco from her youth. She wasn’t clever in general. Nicmart (talk) 05:59, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
