I got an email from Ropeik pointing out that he was no longer with HCRA and that the reference to the style of risk communication referred to in the original text wasn't what he taught. I have shfited him to the ex-staff section on the HCRA page and also deleted the section originally on his page about the HCRA's funding as it was off-topic for his page. The par below I am deleting as, on checking the page citation, it refers to risk communication generally not Ropeik specifically. I'll do a little more tidying too on the remianing material --Bob Burton 00:00, 23 October 2006 (EDT)

The short blurb at the end of the piece identifiying Ropeik as an employee of the HCRA doesn't tell you that Ropeik is not a scientist with expertise in food safety, but a former TV reporter who now works as a PR officer for the HCRA. Ropeik's bio on the HCRA web site indicates that he teaches "risk communication at the Harvard School of Public Health" and has "written extensively on risk perception and risk communication." In other words, he advises companies how best to convince consumers, and the public at large, that perceived "hazards are slight and risk is remote" (Stauber & Rampton, "Trust Us We're Experts," 2001, p. 114).
