Edit note

The initial section of the following par was based on a misreading of the original source document.

Another announcement, made by FreedomWorks in the Cato Institute's Social Security This Week August 20, 2004, weekly newsletter, stated that it was created as a result of the "merger of Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE), Jack Kemp's Empower America, and the Republican Liberty Caucus." However, the Caucus' website does not indicate that it was part of the merger. [1] This is completely inaccurate and FreedomWorks has no formal affiliation

What the Cato newsletter stated was "Freedom Works, the result of the recent merger between Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) and Jack Kemp’s Empower America, and the Republican Liberty Caucus are currently on a Social Security tour, leading townhall meetings about options for reform."

From this it is clear that the Republican Liberty Caucus was not a part of the merger but was jointly involved with FreedomWorks in running a Social Security tour. Two very different things.--Bob Burton 20:37, 22 September 2009 (EDT)
