And to answer that question: most likely not. The Rutherford Institute (web site: www.rutherford.org) was started in 1982 by John W. Whitehead [1] who is still president of that institute. On the header of several pages of that site, you can see the text:

"The Rutherford Institute - Dedicated to the civil liberties and human rights"

So most likely you were refering to another John Whitehead.
