Talk:Virgil Goode

There was a bit of padding on Goode's NatGuard tenure. 1969-1975 makes sense from the late 60's perspective. Goode graduated from the University of Richmond in 1969. In 1969, all student deferments from the draft were also ended, and the 1st lottery draft was scheduled to happen in Dec. 1969. Virgil was going to be one of those affected by the lottery draft, so maybe rather than risk actually going to Vietnam, he got into the Guard, which was back then, a 6 year commitment. I'm not claiming that this is necessarily the reason Goode got into the guard, but it is a plausible rationale. If this is the case though, it is ironic, because had Goode exposed himself to the lottery draft, his birthdate was chosen 288, and the highest number called was 195. Both the Washington Post and Project Vote Smart list Goode's years of National Guard service as 1969-1975.

If YouTube files are being used as citations, there is a video file of Goode's Feb. 15, 2007, bizarre tirade on the House floor, where he supports the surge, opposes the timetables, and makes over the top accusations regarding the inherent threat of the Islamic faith. (he says something that sounds like 'Moohahmud' in his speech) The YouTube site specific search for 'Virgil Goode' has a permanent pointer also.
