Times Beach was a major environmental health scandal which helped pass some important amendments to the CERCLA (Superfund Act) legislation.

Times Beach in Missouri. was a formerly incorporated city whose road system was sprayed with dioxin-contaminated waste oil for dust control in the early 1970s. Cleanup of the site, to include incineration of all dioxin contaminated soil for other eastern Missouri sites, was completed in 1997. EPA removed the site from the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1998.
