"Originally founded in 1938 as the Women’s Voluntary Services for Air Raid Precautions, WRVS is the largest volunteering organisation in British history. This year, 2013, WRVS will be celebrating its 75th anniversary... In 1966 in recognition of the service WVS and its volunteers had given to this country we were granted the honour of adding ‘Royal’ to our title by our Patron, Her Majesty the Queen. We became the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service."[1] The Duchess of Cornwall became the President of WRVS in December 2012.

David McCullough took on the post of WRVS Chief Executive in October 2011.
