Bomis.com is the largest underwriter of Wikipedia providing building space, bandwidth and technical support.

For several years Wikipedia operated on Bomis equipment which also allocated a staff member to get the project going. In late 2003, Wikipedia was transferred from Bomis to the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization.

The foundations three original trustees were joint owners of Bomis. In May 2004, Jimmy Wales, chairman of the Wikimedia Foundation board of directors, announced that he is resigning as CEO of Bomis to more fully reflect that he spends most of his time working for the Wikimedia Foundation. [1]

Bomis.com produced a free soft-porn site titled Bomis Babe Report [2] and a membership soft porn site at http://premium.bomis.com. They are no longer online.
