Biography
Thompson was born January 24, 1951 in St. Helena, California, and educated at California State University. He served in the United States Army, was a vineyard owner and maintenance supervisor, taught Public Administration and State Government at San Francisco State University and California State University, Chico and was a member of the California State Senate before entering the House.
He is married to Janet Thompson and has two sons. He is a member of the Blue Dog and New Democratic Coalitions.
Thompson was first elected to this seat in 1998.
2006 elections
In 2006, the Republicans nominated John W. Jones to face Thompson in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Thompson retained his seat.
