G.D. Searle & Company, founded 1888 in Omaha, Nebraska, by Gideon Daniel Searle, was acquired by Monsanto in 1985, and is now a part of Pfizer Inc. [1]

On May 23, 1985, Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense in the George W. Bush administration, who had served as president and chief executive officer at Searle since 1977, was named chairman. [2]
